Samsung keeps pushing its wearables further into health tracking, and this update is a major one. An upgraded Sleep Apnea feature is now available on both the Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Ring.
Regulators have signed off on it. The US FDA cleared the feature in July, and Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has approved it too. Samsung also gets a first out of this. No other company has brought sleep apnea risk detection to a smart ring before.
New Samsung Sleep Apnea Feature
The first version of this feature only told you whether you were at risk. The upgraded version is integrated into the Samsung Health Monitor app. It looks at your vitals more closely overnight and now tells you how severe your breathing interruptions are.

That extra detail helps when you see your doctor, because you arrive with real data and not guesses.

The feature already has a strong track record. In February 2024, its first version earned FDA De Novo authorization. That made it the first wearable tool of its kind to flag possible moderate or severe sleep apnea.
Why does the Galaxy Ring matter?
Many people dislike sleeping with a smartwatch on their wrist. The Galaxy Ring is light and comfortable, so you are much more likely to wear it every night. It also does not need weeks of data. You only need two nights of sleep tracking within any 10-day window to get useful results.

“We are giving people the tools to help spot possible early signs of sleep apnea and take charge of their wellbeing,” said Jongmin Choi, Head of Health R&D Group, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, Samsung Electronics.
If you own a Galaxy Watch or a Galaxy Ring, this is a feature worth turning on. You can use whichever device is more comfortable to sleep with. Samsung also plans to bring the feature to more countries over time.
