Google might be working on a new fitness tracker designed to bridge the gap between the screen-free Fitbit Air and the more full-featured Google Pixel Watch 5. According to exclusive images obtained by Android Headlines, this is the Fitbit Edge, a fitness band with a screen that could effectively take over as the successor to the Fitbit Charge series.

Google hasn’t released a new Fitbit Charge since 2023, leaving the future of that popular fitness-band lineup genuinely uncertain. The Fitbit Edge could be Google’s answer to that gap, bringing a small display and useful smart features while keeping the focus squarely on fitness rather than turning your wrist into another smartphone.
Google Fitbit Edge will be the successor to a Fitbit Charge
The leaked images reveal an elongated fitness band with a small screen, physical buttons on both sides, and sensors on the back.
Design-wise, it sits somewhere between the Fitbit Air and Google Pixel Watch 5, favoring a slimmer band-style shape over a traditional smartwatch form factor.
The sensor arrangement on the back also appears different from the Pixel Watch 5, which could mean the Edge tracks additional health and fitness metrics the Watch doesn’t.
Expect the Fitbit Edge to handle notifications, precise GPS, an altimeter for elevation data, and automatic activity recognition. Reports also suggest it will support a limited set of apps, including Google Maps, YouTube Music, and Find My Phone.

Battery life could end up being its biggest selling point. The tracker is expected to last up to seven days, matching the Fitbit Air and significantly outlasting what the Pixel Watch 5 offers.
That combination could genuinely appeal to people who want good fitness tracking plus a handful of smart features, without constant notifications and apps competing for their attention throughout the day.
Google Fitbit Edge will be the middle ground between Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch
Google appears to be positioning the Edge as the middle ground in its wearable lineup. The Fitbit Air offers a simpler, screen-free experience, while the Pixel Watch 5 functions as a full smartwatch. The Edge could land right in between, offering enough of both worlds without becoming overly complicated.

Compatibility stands out as another real advantage here. Like the Fitbit Air, the Edge is expected to work with both Android and iOS, unlike the Pixel Watch 5, which stays locked to Android only. That could make it a genuinely appealing option for iPhone users who want access to Google’s fitness ecosystem without committing to an Apple Watch.
The leaked images show black, green, and orange color options that appear to match Google’s Obsidian, Olive, and Canyon colors from the Pixel 11 Pro lineup. Additional band colors could follow down the line.
According to the report, the Fitbit Edge is expected to launch this month, with an estimated price somewhere between $149 and $199. Previous Fitbit Charge models ranged from $129 to $179, and the current Fitbit Air sits at $99, which would put the Edge in a potentially interesting middle price point between the two.
