Anthropic just stopped making users choose between two versions of Claude. As of today, Claude Cowork and Claude chat are becoming one product.
Ask a quick question or hand over an entire report, and Claude handles it either way, and it will keep working even after you close your laptop. Pro and Max users will see the rollout first over the coming weeks, with other plans getting it soon after.
What Is Changing on Claude
Before, you had to figure out whether your task belonged in chat or in Cowork, and jumping between them meant starting from scratch. That friction disappears now. Claude works out what a task actually needs and pulls in the right context, skills, and connectors on its own, no matter where you started the conversation.
Claude’s models have always had more capability than most people ever tapped into. The interface was the real bottleneck, not the AI. You had to know which surface to open, which mode fit your task, and what kind of output to ask for before you could even begin. That’s a lot of decisions before any real work happens.

As the models get smarter, Anthropic wants their product to get simpler, not more complicated. So instead of asking you to match your task to the right tool, Claude does that matching itself. You bring whatever you’re working on, and Claude figures out what it takes to get it done.
What else is Claude adding?
This update also adds two new tools, Claude Docs and Claude Slides, and Claude Design now runs directly inside your chats as well. Need a document written? Claude drafts sections alongside you, asks clarifying questions, and drops comments wherever you need to make a call.

Need a presentation instead? Claude puts together the entire slide deck, and you can edit any part of it, present directly from Claude, or export it as a PowerPoint or PDF. All three tools are currently in beta for paid plans.
The real win here is that you don’t have to pick the right tool anymore. Next time you’re stuck wondering whether your task needs a quick chat or full Cowork capabilities, skip the overthinking. Just throw everything into the conversation and let Claude work out what it needs from there.
