LG’s AI Discovers New Hair Loss Ingredient Rhamsydil

Most AI demos stick to safe ground, such as summarizing your emails, generating an image, maybe offering some medical advice if you push it. LG has bigger plans for the tech. It’s using AI to hunt for a better hair loss treatment.

According to LG AI Research, its EXAONE Discovery system screened over 420,000 candidate compounds in a single day, and that process helped uncover an ingredient called Rhamsydil, developed alongside LG Household & Health Care.

LG built the material specifically for hair-loss care, and it’s already moving toward commercial products. The company says Rhamsydil could tackle female-pattern hair loss by making the scalp a better environment for hair growth. LG plans to fold the ingredient into its Dr. Groot scalp-care line going forward.

Think of EXAONE Discovery as an AI system built purely for materials research. It works through molecular structures and scientific data to flag compounds that fit the properties researchers are after, cutting down a massive search space before anything reaches a lab bench.

Rhamsydil showed it could help prevent hair loss without relying on steroid-derived compounds, and researchers presented findings on it at the World Congress for Hair Research. That said, this isn’t AI suddenly handing us a clinically proven cure for baldness. It’s an ingredient still working its way toward commercialization.

Testing hundreds of thousands of compounds the traditional way would eat up huge amounts of time and money. LG’s AI cuts through a lot of that trial-and-error by pointing researchers toward the candidates actually worth pursuing.

What’s coming next from LG’s AI

Hair care is just one piece of what LG has planned. The company is already applying EXAONE Discovery to cosmetics, battery and semiconductor materials, pharmaceutical research, and even immersion-cooling fluids for AI data centers.

Next up, LG wants to build an autonomous lab, one where AI handles candidate discovery, plans the experiments, analyzes results, and hands the physical work off to robotic hardware.

Rhamsydil makes for a catchy headline, especially if you’re watching your hairline retreat. But LG’s bigger point is that specialist AI could shrink months or years of repetitive scientific searching down into much shorter development cycles. Whether it actually helps people keep their hair is still an open question.
