Sony is rolling out two new PS5 headsets, and the higher-end model marks a real step up from what came before. Meet the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and the Pulse Edge Wireless Headset, both building on the audio lineup Sony kicked off with the Pulse Elite back in 2024.
Both headsets pack larger custom planar magnetic drivers, PlayStation Link connectivity, Bluetooth, and AI noise rejection for your mic. The Pulse Edge, though, pushes it even further.
Pulse Edge and Planar Hardware
The standard Pulse relies on four magnets per planar driver. The Pulse Edge doubles that to eight. Sony says that extra magnetic power translates into deeper, fuller bass without sacrificing the detail and spatial accuracy planar drivers are known for delivering.

That spatial accuracy matters most in competitive games, where Sony claims you will pick out directional cues like footsteps and reloads more easily.
The Edge also throws in active noise cancellation, a boom mic you can detach, a hidden backup mic that kicks in when you remove the boom, onboard controls for balancing game and chat audio on PS5, a 3.5mm jack, and a carrying case.
The standard Pulse keeps things simpler by comparison, with a built-in microphone and basic volume controls. For context, we reviewed the Pulse Elite a couple of years back and came away impressed by its detailed planar sound and AI-driven noise rejection, even though the fit and the PlayStation Link ecosystem had a few rough edges at the time.
PlayStation Link Connectivity Power
Both headsets come with a USB-C PlayStation Link adapter, giving you lossless, ultra-low-latency audio across PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac. You can also keep a Bluetooth connection running at the same time, so your console audio and your phone audio can work together without switching back and forth.

Sony redesigned the hardware too. The earcups now rotate flat, and you’ll be able to grab both models in White or Midnight Black. The standard PlayStation Pulse arrives in select markets during the 2026 holiday season, while the Pulse Edge follows in early 2027. Sony hasn’t shared pricing, preorder dates, exact release dates, or battery life numbers yet.
