Applying to college is stressful enough. Add a dozen deadlines from different schools, and it gets overwhelming fast. OpenAI wants ChatGPT to take some of that load off you.

The company announced College Planner, a new tool that is coming soon to ChatGPT for Teens. It aims to help students keep track of the application process in one place.

OpenAI also added new study features for exam prep. You can now make flashcards, take interactive quizzes, and upload your notes more easily so ChatGPT can build practice material from them.

What you can do on ChatGPT’s new College Planner

College Planner puts the messy parts of applying into one place. For each school on your list, it tracks requirements, deadlines, tasks, and financial aid steps.

You can come back anytime to update your progress. A built-in timeline shows what is due and when, so you stay ahead of each deadline. You can also ask ChatGPT questions as you go. If a requirement confuses you or you don’t know where to start, ask.

OpenAI says the tool handles the application processing, but it does not choose a school for you. That decision stays with you.

The first release covers the US. It is built for students in grades 10 through 12 who plan to attend a four-year college. OpenAI plans to add more countries later, along with support for two-year colleges, technical schools, and trade programs.

Taking photos of your notes one at a time wastes time. On iOS, you can now snap several photos of handwritten notes in one continuous session. ChatGPT stitches them into a single PDF that is ready to upload. Android support for multi-photo capture will come later, according to OpenAI.

Once your notes are in, ChatGPT can turn them into flashcards. You can shuffle the cards, mark the ones you already know, and come back to the rest later. Every deck saves to your library, so you can find it again.

You can also turn notes into interactive quizzes inside ChatGPT. Upload your notes, or just ask for a quiz in the chat. OpenAI says the system now does a better job of noticing when you want a quiz and building one.

The update follows a recent Common Sense Media report that raised serious concerns about the safeguards in ChatGPT for Teens. The group tested the chatbot with 4,000 prompts. That raises a fair question about whether the product is safe enough for younger users.
