FAW’s five-door Bestune Pony has launched in China at a starting price of 44,900 yuan, or roughly $6,735. This tiny EV fits four seats into a cheerful little body just 3.35 meters long.

It looks like something from a gift shop, but the layout handles everyday chores well. The car has four passenger doors and a rear hatch, so you can reach the back seats without folding a front seat out of the way.

Bestune Pony Five-Door EV Features

The new Pony is 350mm longer than the original three-door model. Most of that extra length goes between the wheels, which gives rear passengers more legroom. Boot space grows from 81 to 265 liters, so your weekly grocery run needs less creative packing.

The entry model claims 222km of range, about 138 miles. Higher trims use a larger battery that raises the claim to 328km, roughly 204 miles. Both figures come from China’s CLTC test cycle, so your real-world range will vary.

A 40-horsepower rear motor gives it a top speed of around 64mph. The driver gets a seven-inch instrument display. Depending on the trim, you can also get a 10.1-inch central touchscreen.

Bestune Pony Five-Door EV Vs other Cute EVs

Wuling’s four-door Hongguang Mini EV starts at 44,800 yuan. That is only 100 yuan less than the Pony’s regular starting price. Buyers in China already have rivals at this end of the market, even if the prices look startling to people elsewhere.

The Fiat Topolino and the Citroën Ami appeal in a similar way, but both are two-seat quadricycles. In the UK, Citroën sells the Ami from £7,695, and it tops out at 28mph.

The Pony seats two more people and goes much faster. Those are useful differences under the shared cute-car styling. Keep in mind that these prices apply to different markets and different vehicle categories.

Where can buyers get one

The $6,735 figure is the regular starting price in China. A limited-time launch discount of 5,000 yuan brings the entry model down to 39,900 yuan.

FAW says overseas deliveries have started, but its announcement does not name any destinations. US pricing and a US launch date are not confirmed, so this bargain price comes with a catch. You may not be able to buy it where you live.
