Amazon’s revamped Echo Dot (6th Gen) promises plenty of upgrades over the older model. Before our full review, we compared the specs of the Echo Dot (6th Gen) and Echo Dot (5th Gen). Here is everything new on Amazon’s flagship Alexa-powered device.
Echo Dot (6th Gen) vs Echo Dot (5th Gen): Price and Availability
The Echo Dot (6th Gen) is on sale now, with a recommended price of $99.99. You can pick from four colors: Graphite, Agave Green, Coral Pink, and Glacier White.

The 2022 Echo Dot (5th Gen) has a recommended price of $79.99. You can often find it for less, especially during sales events like Prime Day and Black Friday.
Echo Dot (6th Gen) runs on Amazon’s new AZ3 silicon
Amazon’s new AZ3 chip powers the 2026 Echo Dot, and it includes a new AI Accelerator for on-device AI. Together, they should make conversations with Alexa+ faster and more natural. The AI Accelerator is also meant to improve “conversational detection” and filter out background noise better.

That does not mean the older Echo Dot struggled. In our testing, it picked up our voice and understood commands clearly, even in busier environments.
Echo Dot (6th) comes with a built-in eero Wi-Fi extender
Amazon has kept eero Wi-Fi extender support for US customers until now. It has rolled the feature out in the UK on the Echo Dot (6th Gen). The speaker can now double as a Wi-Fi extender and add up to 93m2 of coverage to your existing network. That is a serious upgrade, and it can help clear dead Wi-Fi spots around your house.
Echo Dot (6th) promises more bass
We were seriously impressed by the Echo Dot (5th Gen)’s audio quality for its low price. It struggled on bass-heavy tracks, but most songs across most genres sounded surprisingly good. The sound was more balanced, smoother, and less harsh than on its predecessor.

That leaves the question of how the new Echo Dot (6th Gen) will sound. Amazon says it redesigned the driver to deliver 50% more bass than the 5th Gen. We felt the 5th Gen’s bass was slightly lacking, so this is a welcome upgrade. You will have to wait for our full review to find out how it actually sounds.
Echo Dot (6th) comes with a built-in smart home hub
You can already control paired smart home devices with the Echo Dot (5th Gen), but the new model is the first of its kind with a built-in smart home hub.
It supports Zigbee, Matter, and Thread, so the Echo Dot (6th Gen) connects to hundreds of compatible devices right out of the box. You do not need a complicated setup, and you do not need to buy separate hubs or bridges.

That makes pairing easier than ever. You can connect smart light bulbs, locks, robot vacuums, and even blinds straight to your Echo Dot (6th Gen).
Echo Dot (6th) comes with more microphones
Building on that, the Echo Dot (6th Gen) has a fourth microphone to help it catch the Alexa wake word. The Echo Dot (5th Gen) has only three.
Amazon says the extra microphone lets the new Dot hear you clearly, even when you move around the room or the space is busy.
Echo Dot (6th Gen) vs Echo Dot (5th Gen) Verdict
The Amazon Echo Dot (6th Gen) takes what worked on the 5th Gen and adds upgrades that matter. It has a faster processor and an extra microphone to help Alexa hear you better.
It also has a built-in smart home hub and a Wi-Fi extender. If you want to start a smart home or simplify the one you have, it looks like a solid choice.
