If you picked a OnePlus phone for OxygenOS, for that clean and fast Android experience that actually works well, pay attention. Your current phone might be the last one to run it.
A report from Indian outlet Smartprix claims OnePlus and Realme are dropping their own software skins. OxygenOS and Realme UI would both disappear. In their place, every phone from Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme would run ColorOS worldwide.

OnePlus May Kill OxygenOS for ColorOS
Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme all belong to the same parent company, BBK Electronics. For years, each brand ran its own software skin and operated like a separate company. That setup looks like it’s ending now.

Building and maintaining three different Android skins costs a lot of money. Oppo likely wants to cut that cost down. This shift actually started back in 2021, when OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau announced that OnePlus and Oppo would merge their software teams.
OnePlus already dropped HydrogenOS in China and switched to ColorOS years ago. OxygenOS only survives on the brand’s global phones now. Realme UI never strayed far either; it runs on ColorOS underneath from the start.
Smartprix states that OxygenOS and Realme UI will get discontinued on future devices, replaced by ColorOS worldwide. The report stays silent on current OnePlus phones. You won’t find any mention of whether existing devices get pushed to ColorOS too.
Has Consolidation Already Started?
Earlier this year, OnePlus reportedly pulled out of the US and European markets. Carrier deals in North America started unwinding around the same time. The brand’s retail lineup has shrunk too. Right now, you can only buy the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R through the official website.

Oppo has been absorbing OnePlus operations for a while. According to reports, Oppo has already started canceling OnePlus’s 2026 global product lineup. Both brands share software and hardware platforms now, so they can’t really function as separate companies anymore.
This might be one of the last steps in that process. Enthusiasts genuinely loved OxygenOS. OnePlus built its entire reputation on it. If OxygenOS gets discontinued, you lose one of the core things that made OnePlus, OnePlus in the first place.
