Sennheiser just unveiled the Momentum True Wireless 5, and it essentially takes the best elements of its full-size Momentum 5 Wireless headphones and shrinks them down into a smaller, more comfortable earbud. Shipping starts September 3rd, priced at $299.95.

These earbuds run on Sennheiser’s 7mm TrueResponse dynamic driver, built and tested at the company’s facility in Tullamore, Ireland. They connect via Bluetooth 6.0 with aptX Adaptive support, delivering hi-res audio up to 24-bit/96kHz, including aptX Lossless for bit-perfect playback.
Noise cancellation got an upgrade too. A redesigned ear tip pairs with a four-microphone array powering the adaptive hybrid ANC system, plus an automatic anti-wind mode and what Sennheiser calls its most natural transparency mode yet.

Dolby Atmos support with head tracking rounds out spatial audio capabilities. For calls, six microphones combine with two bone-conduction voice accelerometers and an AI speech-extraction algorithm to isolate your voice in noisy environments.
The earbud housing got reshaped too, and Sennheiser says 73% of testers rated the new design more comfortable than the previous generation. They carry an IP54 rating for resistance against dust, sweat, and splashes. The charging case is narrower as well, built to fit more easily in a pocket.
Battery life rates at 12 hours of continuous playback per charge, with the case holding two additional charges for up to 40 hours total. An 8-minute quick charge adds roughly an hour of listening time.

The real change here is the battery system. Both the earbuds themselves and the wireless charging case use user-replaceable batteries, meaning that instead of tossing the earbuds once the battery wears down, you can swap the cells yourself with just a small screwdriver.

I genuinely love my AirPods Pro, and the only reason I had to replace them was battery degradation over three years, to the point they became nearly unusable. If replacing the battery had been an option, I would have taken that route over buying a whole new pair.
That’s exactly why this move from Sennheiser matters for the industry. These aren’t technically the first earbuds to offer replaceable batteries, but they’re among the first from a mainstream brand to actually do it, and that should get other manufacturers paying attention.
