Samsung is reportedly working on a foldable that’s shorter and wider than its current models. Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone is said to follow a similar path, too, with a wide, passport-style shape. Now Oppo looks like it wants in on that same design.

The tip comes from Digital Chat Station, a Chinese leaker with a solid track record. According to this source, Oppo is building its own wide-screen foldable, and it could land sometime in the first quarter of 2027.

This battery could be the standout feature

This unannounced foldable is rumored to run on Qualcomm’s next flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6, tagged internally as model SM8950. The same leak mentions a dedicated AI accelerator built to handle heavy on-device AI tasks. But the number that stands out most is the battery: reports point to roughly 6,500mAh.

A battery that size would be huge for any foldable phone. To hit that number without making the phone too thick, Samsung would likely need silicon-carbon battery tech instead of standard lithium-ion cells. The source hasn’t shared charging speeds, dimensions, camera details, or confirmed screen sizes yet.

For comparison, the Motorola Razr Fold currently holds one of the largest batteries you’ll find on any foldable, and even that tops out at 6,000mAh.

This next foldable could carry the Find N7 name. Like the current Find N6, it’s expected to use a hinge design that keeps the screen crease to a minimum, so the fold barely shows when the phone’s open.

The wide foldable trend is here

Wide foldables take a different approach than tall ones like the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Instead of a narrow, elongated shape, you get something shorter and closer to a tablet. That proportion change matters more than it sounds, since it gives you a better screen for watching movies, playing games, and handling everyday tasks.

Huawei already has a phone in this category, the Pura X Max. It runs a 5.5-inch display on the outside, then unfolds into a 7.6-inch screen with a 16:10 ratio.

Samsung and Apple look ready to follow that same path. Samsung’s upcoming Fold 8 lineup and Apple’s rumored foldable are both expected to bring this wider format to a much bigger audience.
