Lenovo has a track record of showing off concept laptops that push things a little further than usual, whether that’s a screen that rolls out and expands or a second display built into the lid.
At IFA 2026, the company brought out something new: the Aeroblade proof-of-concept laptop, with a side profile Lenovo describes as under 10mm thick. To put that in perspective, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, already known for being thin, measures 9.7mm, and the iPhone 17 Pro comes in at 8.75mm.

The laptop matches that slim build with a light weight too, coming in at just 830 grams. For reference, Apple’s old 12-inch MacBook, famous for being thin, measured 13.1mm at its thickest point, and this Lenovo concept beats it.
So how did Lenovo pull off something this thin and light in laptop form? The answer is solid-state active cooling, which does away with the space normally reserved for cooling fans.

According to the company, this is made possible by Lenovo’s own Active Flow thermal system, built in partnership with Frore Systems. Instead of relying on traditional fans, the Project AeroBlade concept uses a solid-state cooling setup powered by AirJet technology.
Cutting out the fan solves more than one problem at once. For starters, it frees up vertical space inside the chassis, which is a big part of how Lenovo got the enclosure this thin.
It also gets rid of the fan noise that usually kicks in whenever you push a laptop hard for extra performance. And since there’s one less moving part inside, you don’t have to deal with dust building up around fan vents either.
That said, Lenovo isn’t cutting corners on the practical side just to hit this thin design. Laptops built around the Project AeroBlade concept will still come with sharp OLED displays, a magnesium-aluminum chassis that’s both sleek and durable, Thunderbolt 4 ports, and Wi-Fi 7 for fast wireless connections.
On the performance side, Lenovo is starting things off with Intel’s Core Ultra 7, Series 2, processors. Beyond a “coming soon” note on its media site, though, the company hasn’t given any real timeline for when laptops based on this AeroBlade concept will actually reach the market.
