Intel’s next-generation Nova Lake processors may use one naming scheme, Core Ultra 4000, for both desktop PCs and laptops. That comes from a new leak. It replaces an earlier expectation that Intel would use three-digit Core Ultra 400 names for some mainstream laptop chips and save four-digit numbers for desktop and high-performance laptop chips.

Hardware leaker Jaykihn reportedly corrected that information on October 16. The leaker said Nova Lake H-series and other mobile processors would use four-digit model numbers too.
When asked whether the whole Nova Lake lineup would fall under Core Ultra 4000, the leaker said yes. Intel has not confirmed the naming scheme, so treat this as a report and not a final announcement.
A single scheme could make Intel’s next generation easier to recognize across different devices. Model numbers alone still will not tell you how powerful a chip is, and Intel has yet to clarify its final product lineup.
Nova Lake Families and Four-digit Names
The reported naming scheme would cover five processor families. Nova Lake-S is for desktop PCs. Nova Lake-HX is for high-performance laptops. Nova Lake-H is for mainstream performance laptops. Nova Lake-U and Nova Lake-UL are for lower-power mobile devices.

Earlier reports said Nova Lake-S and Nova Lake-HX would carry Core Ultra 4000 branding, while the other mobile chips would keep the three-digit Core Ultra 400 label. The leaker’s revised information drops that split and puts the expected desktop and laptop processors in the same four-digit series.
Some desktop model names have already appeared in leaks. They include the Core Ultra 9 4970K BFC, the Core Ultra 9 4950K, and the Core Ultra 7 4870K BFC. These names are unofficial. Intel has not confirmed specific retail model numbers for the mainstream laptop variants.
What the Nova Lake Family Name change means for buyers
A consistent naming scheme could help you spot processors from the same generation, whether you are shopping for a desktop or a laptop. It may also clear up the confusion of having two numbering systems inside one processor family.

The Core Ultra 4000 label will not mean every chip performs the same, though. You will still need to check the processor’s category, power requirements, core configuration, and the device it was built for.
Nova Lake should start arriving in 2027. Desktop and mobile versions may launch at different times. Intel has not confirmed the full lineup, specifications, pricing, or release schedule.
Until Intel makes an official announcement, the revised naming scheme rests on leaked information. More details should appear as Nova Lake gets closer to launch.
