Xpeng has launched the Mona L05 in China at a starting price of 139,800 yuan, or about $20,800. The new electric crossover offers up to 635 km of claimed range, an extended-range option, and a cabin full of technology.
It joins the company’s mass-market lineup. Xpeng has not confirmed the model for the US market. Still, the mix of price, range, and features gives you a glimpse of the competition American automakers face as Chinese EV makers expand overseas.

The Mona L05 is a five-seat, mid-size SUV. You can get it with a fully electric powertrain or an extended-range electric one. The launch also comes as Xpeng looks beyond China. The company is targeting 65 countries and regions for the model.
Xpeng Mona L05: Range and Technology
The Mona L05 is 4,870 mm long with a 2,940 mm wheelbase. The exterior has Y-shaped headlights, a closed front fascia, semi-hidden door handles, and a floating roofline.
Inside, you get a 17.3-inch central touchscreen, a 26.8-inch head-up display, and a separate 17.3-inch screen mounted in the ceiling. The equipment list also includes a 20-speaker audio system, a massaging front passenger seat, and 41 storage spaces.

The fully electric versions use a rear-mounted 183 kW (245 hp) motor. You can choose a 58.2 kWh or a 71.1 kWh LFP battery. Xpeng quotes a maximum CLTC range of 635 km, which is roughly 395 miles.
The extended-range version uses the same electric motor, along with a 37.2 kWh battery and a 1.5-litre petrol engine. It offers 310 km of CLTC-rated electric range and up to 1,310 km of claimed combined range.
The higher-spec Ultra SE variant has two Turing chips with a combined 1,500 TOPS of computing power for assisted-driving functions. You still have to supervise the system and stay ready to take control.
Mona L05 and the US market
In China, the Mona L05 comes in six variants priced from 144,800 yuan to 176,800 yuan. Introductory discounts bring that range down to 139,800 to 171,800 yuan, or about $20,800 to $25,600. Deliveries in China start on November 1.

For US buyers, the converted price is not the most interesting part. What stands out is how much range, cabin technology, and equipment Xpeng offers at this price.
Do not treat the Chinese starting price as a possible US sticker price, though. Import duties, regulatory requirements, distribution, and other costs would change the numbers a lot.
Xpeng has not announced a US launch or US pricing. Its global expansion plans make the Mona L05 worth watching, but you should not expect to see it at American dealerships yet.
