Sony never stopped making Walkmans, and a new one may be close. This leak points to a serious premium music player instead of another cheap nostalgia product. The Walkman Blog has published images and specifications for the Sony NW-ZX900, the expected successor to the 2023 NW-ZX707.

The report says Sony is upgrading the display, battery, performance, Bluetooth support, and audio processing.

The blog expects a price of around ¥210,000 in Japan, or roughly $1,330. Sony’s Japanese store launched the NW-ZX707 at ¥104,500, so that would double the price. For comparison, Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro costs $1,199.

Sony NW-ZX900 Walkman Features

The leaked NW-ZX900 reportedly plays for up to 40 hours on 128kbps MP3 files and 30 hours while streaming. That would be a clear step up from the NW-ZX707. Sony rates the ZX707 at about 25 hours of MP3 playback through its Music Player app and around 22 hours through other music apps.

The five-inch display would stay the same size but move from HD to Full HD. The player would also run Android 16. Internal storage stays at 64GB, and you can still expand it with a microSD card.

Performance should improve as well. Earlier Geekbench listings pointed to 8GB of RAM, double what the ZX707 has, along with a much newer Qualcomm platform. The exact chip is still unknown.

Sony NW-ZX900 Walkman size and weight

Sony’s next Walkman may cost more, and it may feel heavier in your pocket too. The NW-ZX900 reportedly measures 139.8 x 77.2 x 17.5mm and weighs 345 grams. The ZX707 weighs 227g, so the new model would be about 52% heavier.

Sony is reportedly keeping an aluminum chassis, a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, and the 4.4mm balanced output that enthusiasts like.

The leaked spec list also includes S-Master HX, DSEE Ultimate, the DSD Remastering Engine, LC3, and Qualcomm aptX Adaptive. Sony appears to be aiming for a November release, but it has not announced anything about the NW-ZX900. Treat these details with caution for now.
