Samsung’s been trying to stretch the Galaxy name past just phones for a long time now. Look at what falls under that umbrella today: foldables, smartwatches, TVs, home appliances, smart home gear, and a pile of digital services. And now there’s a new piece joining that lineup, one that has nothing to do with hardware at all.

Samsung just rolled out the Galaxy Card, its first branded credit card here in the US. It’s built with Barclays US Consumer Bank and runs on the Visa network. You earn cashback on regular purchases, and that rate jumps noticeably higher when you buy something straight from Samsung.

Dropping a credit card right before Galaxy Unpacked might look strange at first. But it actually tells you a lot about where tech companies are headed these days.
Phones are harder to tell apart than they used to be, and people just aren’t upgrading as often. So companies are looking past the hardware itself, trying to find new ways to keep you connected to the brand in between launches.
Samsung Galaxy Card With A Reserved Rewards
This card is clearly built around Samsung’s own customer base. Buy something directly from Samsung, and you get 5 percent cashback, which is the top rate on the card. That means if you’re picking up a new Galaxy phone, tablet, TV, or any other Samsung product, you’re getting the most out of it. Say you buy a premium foldable that costs around $1,500; that alone puts about $75 back in your pocket.
The rewards don’t stop at Samsung’s own store, though the rate drops a bit outside of it. Pay with Samsung Wallet, and you get 3 percent back.
Streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and Spotify earn you 2 percent. Everything else on the card earns a flat 1 percent. On top of that, cardholders get 20 percent off Samsung VIP Advantage, the company’s warranty and membership program.

You can apply starting July 22. Samsung’s also throwing in a $200 cashback bonus if you spend $2,000 within your first 90 days of having the account open. And the card itself comes in two versions: a standard virtual one and a premium metal card if you want the physical version.
Samsung Expanding Their Ecosystem
Samsung isn’t inventing anything new with this credit card. It’s copying a playbook that’s already spread across the tech industry. Apple’s been doing this for years with Apple Card, rewarding people who stay loyal to its products.
Amazon runs several co-branded cards too, all designed to pull shoppers back to its marketplace. Financial products have quietly become another loyalty tool, right up there with subscriptions, cloud storage, and upgrade plans.

The Galaxy Card slots right into that same strategy. Samsung says it connects directly with Samsung Wallet, so you can manage it alongside your other cards, IDs, digital keys, and passes in one place.
The whole thing runs on Samsung Knox, the company’s security platform, which is meant to put your mind at ease about storing payment info on your phone.
If you’re already a Galaxy user, the math is simple. You’re buying Samsung products every couple of years anyway, so getting cashback on that spending is just a nice bonus. This card probably won’t convince anyone to switch phones. That’s not really the point of it.
What Samsung’s betting on is that loyalty doesn’t come from hardware alone anymore. It comes from making every part of owning a Galaxy device feel a little more rewarding, right down to how you pay for it.
