Apple has had the small premium tablet market mostly to itself for a long time. The Oppo Pad Mini is looking to change that.
Announced alongside the Find X9 Ultra, the Oppo Pad Mini comes with an 8.8-inch OLED display running at 2.5K resolution (2520 x 1680 pixels) in a 3:2 aspect ratio. That ratio is the same one that makes the iPad mini so practical for reading and note-taking.
It sits closer to square than most tablets, which means pages, documents, and content feel more natural on screen rather than stretched or cramped. If that’s the kind of use you have in mind, the aspect ratio alone puts the Oppo Pad Mini in serious contention.
Oppo Pad Mini Features
The bezels around that Oppo Pad mini display measure just 2.99mm, which is thin enough to make the screen feel even larger than the size suggests. Brightness peaks at 1,600 nits, and the refresh rate adjusts between 60 and 144Hz depending on what’s on screen.
Oppo also offers a matte version with a paper-like surface finish, which is a practical option for anyone who uses a stylus regularly. The iPad mini doesn’t offer anything equivalent.

On the inside, Oppo went with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 built on a 3nm process, paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.
Apple uses the A17 Pro in the iPad mini, which still leads in single-core performance. But the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 pulls ahead in multi-core tasks, meaning it handles heavier workloads and parallel processes more efficiently.
The fast RAM and storage type also contribute to how quickly the tablet responds to everyday actions, so in real use, the Oppo Pad Mini should feel quick and fluid across the board.
Oppo Pad Mini Portability and Battery Life
At 5.39mm thick and 279 grams, the Oppo Pad Mini is built with portability as a clear priority. It’s slim enough and light enough to fit in a larger pocket or a small bag without any stress. The iPad mini, for comparison, weighs 293 grams and measures 6.3mm thick. Those differences are small but noticeable when you’re carrying the device all day.
Battery capacity sits at 8,000mAh with 67W wired charging support, bringing it to a full charge in roughly an hour. That’s a meaningful advantage over the iPad mini, which charges considerably slower and doesn’t come close to matching that wattage.

Pricing starts at CNY 3,199, which converts to around $470 for the base model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The top configuration with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage comes in at around $590. For what you’re getting on paper, both price points sit well below what Apple charges for the iPad mini.
Sales kick off on April 24, 2026, though the Oppo Pad Mini won’t be available in the United States at launch. That’s a significant gap for now, and it limits how directly it can challenge Apple in one of the world’s biggest tablet markets.
That said, the fact that Oppo built this product at all says something. Android manufacturers have largely ignored the small premium tablet category for years, leaving Apple to own it without much competition. The Oppo Pad Mini signals that at least one major Android brand sees real opportunity there.
If Oppo eventually brings it to the US market, the conversation changes quickly. The combination of a competitive price, strong specs, and a form factor that matches what makes the iPad mini appealing gives Android users a genuine option in a segment where they’ve had almost none.
It won’t automatically take sales away from Apple, but it gives buyers a reason to compare before defaulting to the iPad mini.
