Red Magic just made it official: the Astra 2 gaming tablet is heading global. This device was already launched in China under the name Red Magic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro, and now international buyers get their turn later this summer.
Here’s the rollout plan. Early Bird vouchers go live in mid-August, followed by priority access, then a wider global sale by late August. You’ll be able to grab it through Red Magic’s website or select retail partners.
What does the Astra 2 actually bring to the table?
Pricing for the Astra 2 starts at $699 or €699, with two options on the table: 12GB plus 256GB, or 16GB plus 512GB. The 9.06-inch OLED display puts it much closer in size to an iPad mini than the 11-inch and 13-inch tablets that dominate most of the market right now.
That smaller size isn’t an accident either; it’s a proven approach for gaming, since it’s simply easier to hold comfortably during longer play sessions.

For comparison, the current iPad mini starts at $599, just $100 less than the Astra 2. Apple’s next compact tablet is rumored to get an OLED upgrade, but it’ll reportedly stay capped at 60Hz. Red Magic’s screen leaves that in the dust: 2.4K resolution, a 185Hz refresh rate, and a touch-sampling rate of 2,000Hz. Numbers like that make it far better suited for fast-paced gaming.
Power comes from Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, working alongside Red Magic’s own RedCore R4 gaming processor.

An 8,300mAh battery keeps things running, and the global model supports 75W fast charging, plus you get two USB-C ports for added convenience. Round it out with stereo speakers and Red Magic OS 11.5, built on top of Android 16.
Cooling still steals the show
Cooling is arguably what defines the Astra 2. It ships with what Red Magic calls the “AquaCore Cooling System 2.0,” a mix of liquid cooling, liquid metal, an upgraded vapor chamber, and software that manages heat in real time. Together, they’re built to keep performance steady even during long gaming sessions.
Early Bird buyers get a bonus too, an 80W charger and a Red Magic keychain thrown in. Exact sale dates, regional pricing, and finish options are still to come; expect those details closer to launch.
