Samsung keeps quietly slipping little upgrades into its foldables, and this might be the best one yet. Redditor ultima40 spotted that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra now handle rotation lock separately for each screen.
That means if you’re someone who constantly folds and unfolds your phone, bouncing between the cover screen and the tablet-sized inner display, your phone actually remembers how you like each one oriented; no more fighting with it.
Like landscape mode on the Fold 8 Ultra’s inner screen? Set it once. It’ll stay in landscape every single time you open the phone after that, no touching the rotation lock again.

You could sort of get this before, but only if you went into Routines and manually set up a rule telling your phone to lock a specific orientation whenever it closed. It technically worked, but it never felt like a real feature, more like a patch someone rigged together.

Will older Galaxy Z Fold phones get this too?
There’s no real hardware reason this should stay locked to the newest Fold models. Hopefully Samsung brings it to older Fold devices too once the One UI 9 update spreads out further. It’s a small change, sure, but changes like this are exactly what make owning a foldable less of a hassle day to day.
