Samsung might be changing up the Galaxy SmartTag again, and this redesign could mean giving up one of the things people actually liked about the SmartTag 2. According to a new report from SamMobile, we now have a look at what the Galaxy SmartTag 3 could look like.
The leaked design shows a small squircle-shaped tracker, similar to the icon style Samsung uses in One UI and the rounded shape you see on its newer Galaxy Watch screens. That’s a real shift from the SmartTag 2, which has a longer pill-shape with a large loop built into one end. In the SmartTag 3 renders, that loop is gone completely.

That loop matters more than it might seem. It’s what lets people attach the SmartTag 2 directly to keychains, bags, or backpacks without needing a separate accessory. If Samsung drops it for the SmartTag 3, buyers may need a case or a clip just to carry the tracker the way they used to.

This new look might make the tracker more attractive, but it could also bring back a problem AirTag users already know well. Apple’s trackers don’t come with a way to attach them to anything, so you’re stuck buying a separate accessory just to clip one onto your keys or bag.
Based on SamMobile’s report, the SmartTag 3 seems to have the same issue: no lanyard hole built in. That means Samsung owners might need to buy their own case just to carry it around.
That’s a strange step backward. The SmartTag 2 was actually built around solving this exact problem. Samsung gave it a big loop as part of the design so people could attach it right away, no extra parts needed.
The tracker itself is small, at 28.8 x 52.44 x 8mm and 13.75 grams, and it still packs in UWB, Bluetooth 5.3, and IP67 protection against water and dust.

One thing that does seem to be coming back is a center button. SamMobile thinks Samsung brought it back so users can either make a paired Galaxy phone ring or trigger a Mode or Routine with a press.
Galaxy SmartTag 3 Features
Samsung hasn’t confirmed any of this yet, so most of the actual specs are still a mystery. SamMobile expects the SmartTag 3 to keep Bluetooth, UWB, and Samsung Find support, along with some kind of water and dust resistance.

There’s also talk of Bluetooth 6.0 this time around, which would help with tracking accuracy. Keep in mind, none of this is official until Samsung says so.
Battery life is another thing worth paying attention to. The SmartTag 2 runs on a replaceable CR2032 battery rated for up to 500 days, and Samsung says Power Saving Mode can stretch that by up to 40%.
Sure, a smaller squircle shape with Ring LED lighting sounds sleek, but honestly, I’d take that loop and its convenience over a nicer look any day.
As for timing, Samsung has the Galaxy S26 FE and Galaxy Tab S12 series launching later this year, so there’s a good chance the SmartTag 3 shows up alongside one of them.
