BYD has launched the Da Han EV in China, and its numbers can make some premium electric cars look modest. The new flagship sedan claims up to 626 miles (1,008 km) of range on China’s CLTC test cycle.

It can also charge from 10% to 97% in nine minutes, but only at a compatible high-power charger. Prices start at 235,900 yuan, about $35,200. That is a low price for a large luxury electric sedan.

BYD’s Da Han EV rewriting range anxiety

The Da Han, or Great Han, sits above BYD’s current Han sedan in its Dynasty lineup. It comes in three variants. Two are rear-wheel drive and focus on range. The third is all-wheel drive and focuses on power. Early buyers get a small perk, since the launch prices are lower than the ones BYD announced during the August presale.

All three variants use the same 102.3kWh second-generation Blade Battery. The rear-wheel-drive models claim up to 626 miles of range.

The all-wheel-drive version claims 547 miles. These are CLTC figures, so your real-world range will be lower and will change with how and where you drive. It is still a lot of range from one charge.

Charging is the standout feature. BYD says the Da Han EV can go from 10% to 97% in nine minutes on a compatible high-power flash charger. That is not a full charge from empty, but it takes about as long as a coffee break. At minus 30 degrees Celsius, BYD says the same charge takes only three more minutes.

Performance is strong too. The rear-wheel-drive models make 496hp and 500Nm of torque and reach 62mph in 4.9 seconds. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive version makes 764hp and 910Nm and gets to 62mph in 3.3 seconds. You pay for that speed with less range.

BYD Da Han EV: The Luxury Sedan with Big Battery

The Da Han EV is a large luxury sedan, but BYD added several features to make it easier to drive. It has a claimed drag coefficient of 0.197. Rear-wheel steering gives it a tight 16.2-foot turning radius. The DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension can read the road ahead, and the car uses BYD’s God’s Eye driver-assistance technology.

The cabin is packed with features. You get a 40-inch augmented-reality head-up display, a 17.3-inch central touchscreen, and a separate display for the passenger.

The front seats use Nappa leather and offer zero-gravity positioning with heating, ventilation, and massage. A 31-speaker Devialet sound system handles audio. Electric rear leg rests and soft-close doors add to the comfort.

BYD launched the Da Han EV in China with three variants priced at 235,900 yuan, 249,900 yuan, and 275,900 yuan. That is roughly $35,200, $37,300, and $41,200. Each one costs less than its presale price, with cuts of 14,000 yuan, 20,000 yuan, and 24,000 yuan.

For a sedan with this much technology and comfort, those prices look attractive. BYD has not confirmed an international launch, so buyers outside China cannot count on getting one.

The bigger point is not just the 626-mile claimed range or the nine-minute charge. It is that EV road trips could soon need less planning around charging stops.

Two catches remain. Real-world range will be lower than the CLTC figure, and you need access to compatible ultra-fast chargers. If battery technology keeps improving at this pace, range anxiety may fade.
