Earlier reports already pointed to a MacBook Pro redesign landing sometime between late this year and early next year, with touchscreen OLED displays as the headline feature. But it turns out Apple’s OLED plans for the Mac lineup go beyond that one device.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman now says Apple is also developing OLED versions of the MacBook Air and iMac, backing up earlier supply chain rumors about both machines. The report comes from people with knowledge of Apple’s plans, though neither product sounds close to launching.
OLED MacBook Air Launch Date
Bloomberg says an OLED MacBook Air could show up as early as 2028. That lines up fairly well with what analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted earlier: sometime in 2028 or 2029.

Before Apple gets there, though, it’s expected to update the current 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models by early next year. These upcoming versions, internally labeled J913 and J915, are said to look a lot like the current design, which suggests the real OLED shift is still a ways off and will come as a bigger overhaul later on.
None of this timing is much of a surprise. OLED panels still cost a lot to produce, and Apple has less flexibility to eat that cost on the Air, which is supposed to stay the affordable option in the lineup. Rising memory prices aren’t helping either, especially since Apple already raised prices across its Mac lineup recently, MacBook Air included.
When Is OLED iMac Launch Date?
Bloomberg also confirms an OLED iMac is in the works, though there’s no launch window attached this time. The way it’s described suggests this one sits even further out than the OLED MacBook Air.

Earlier reports pointed to a 2027 or 2028 finish for development, with Apple reportedly looking at 24-inch panels from both Samsung Display and LG Display. Separately, TrendForce has claimed future OLED iMac panels could cover 95% of the BT.2020 color gamut, a meaningful jump in color accuracy if it holds up.
In the meantime, Apple is getting ready to release standard iMac updates this fall. Bloomberg says that work is already finished, but the OLED version looks like its own separate project, one that’s still years from actually shipping.
