If you’ve got both a gaming PC and an Xbox sitting around, you already know the pain. Either you own two controllers, or you are stuck re-pairing the same one every time you switch between them. That’s where SteelSeries comes in. The company has spent years making headsets and mice, and now it’s stepping into gaming controllers with a model that comes with a dock built to make switching a lot less annoying.
SteelSeries Aeon Pro Controller
It’s called the Aeon Pro, and on paper it looks like a fairly typical pro-tier controller. What actually makes it different is the dock, which has two USB-C inputs built in. You can plug it into a PC and an Xbox at the same time, then switch between the two just by pressing a button.
SteelSeries is calling this the QuickSwitch Dock, and it says it’s the first thing like it in the controller market, with a patent pending to back that up. No unplugging a receiver, no re-pairing Bluetooth every time you switch.

The controller itself has been getting good marks for build quality across every early hands-on so far. It’s got textured grips, microswitch buttons and back paddles that feel tactile under your fingers, plus Hall effect thumbsticks paired with fully analog Hall effect triggers.
SteelSeries Aeon Pro Controller and Other Controllers
Beyond the dock, the Aeon Pro has one more unusual feature up its sleeve, borrowed from the hot-swap approach SteelSeries already uses in its headsets. The controller comes with two batteries, so while one sits charging in the dock, the other keeps you gaming.
Each battery runs for 11 to 14 hours before needing a charge, which adds up to 22 to 28 hours combined, depending on whether you’re on 2.4 GHz wireless or Bluetooth. There’s also a small OLED display on the controller itself, useful for switching profiles, jumping between devices, and keeping an eye on battery life.

Now for the catch: the SteelSeries Aeon Pro costs $259.99 in the US, which is steep for a controller. That’s about $60 more than rivals like the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro or Scuf’s lineup.
Overall, this feels like a serious first attempt at cracking the pro controller market. Connectivity and performance are where it really shines, and that’s exactly what its target audience cares about most.
If you regularly bounce between Xbox and PC, the dock alone might make the price worth it. For everyone else, there are cheaper controllers out there that’ll get the job done.
