Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8: Price, Specs, and Release Date Leaks

Rumors point to real upgrades for the Fold 8 Ultra: a sharper display, a stronger chipset, an updated camera, and a bigger battery. 

Samsung’s rumored wider foldable, the Fold 8, is expected to fix the most common complaint with tall, narrow cover screens by switching to a new aspect ratio. The Flip 8, meanwhile, might only get one meaningful change, a new chip, and reportedly not even a Snapdragon one.

The Flip 7 wasn’t a weak phone by any stretch. But a full year has passed since then, and the memory crisis has already put real pressure on smartphone pricing across the board. Caught between rising costs and shrinking margins, the Flip 8 could end up costing more without delivering much that’s actually new, and that’s the kind of combination that tends to frustrate buyers.

A recent WinFuture report points to pricing for the Flip 8 starting at €1,299 for the 256GB model, with the 512GB version going for €1,499. For comparison, the Flip 7 launched at €1,199 for 256GB and €1,319 for 512GB.

In other words, Samsung could be charging anywhere from €100 to €180 more in Europe this time around. Over in the US, early estimates put the Flip 8 (256GB) around $1,199, with the 512GB model potentially hitting $1,399. Keep in mind, these numbers are still speculation for now, largely tied to the ongoing memory shortage and how it’s squeezing smartphone makers across the board.

Even with these price hike rumors floating around, Samsung might still keep its free storage upgrade offer at launch to drive early sales. The Flip 8 is expected to debut at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, 2026, and, based on Samsung’s recent launch pattern, sales could kick off around August 5, 2026.

Samsung might skip a design overhaul entirely for the Flip 8. Based on the renders that have surfaced, it could end up looking nearly identical to the Flip 7. Android Headlines reports the phone might come in four colors: Graphite, Cream, Pink, and Mint, with Mint reportedly exclusive to Samsung’s own store.

A leak from Ice Universe suggests the Flip 8 will measure 6.6mm thick, 0.3mm thinner than the Flip 7’s 6.9mm. But a separate WinFuture report tells a different story, claiming the Flip 8 could actually be 0.2mm thicker than its predecessor instead. Where both sources seem to agree is on weight: the new Flip is expected to shed about eight grams compared to the Flip 7.

Everything else looks like it’s sticking around unchanged. The rear camera placement, the cover display wrapping around those cameras, the punch-hole selfie camera on the inside paired with slightly thick bezels, and even where the buttons and USB-C port sit, all of that should carry over largely as-is.

Based on current leaks and with no signs of any real upgrades mentioned, the Galaxy Z Flip 8’s displays might stay identical to the Flip 7’s. That likely means a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner screen running at 120Hz, plus the same familiar 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover screen. Both panels are solid performers on their own, sure. But if buyers are paying more than they did last year, they’ll reasonably expect upgrades across the board, not just the same screens carried over.

A new report from NewsPim, via SammyFans, claims the Flip 8 will skip Samsung’s Flex Titanium display. That means it likely won’t get the new hinge design expected to bring a more durable, less noticeable crease to the Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra, despite what earlier rumors suggested.

This marks another point where the Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8 go their separate ways. Rumors point to the book-style foldables running on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, while the Flip 8 could end up with an Exynos 2600 instead.

If you were holding out hope for Snapdragon to make a comeback on Samsung’s flip foldable, brace yourself for disappointment, though at least it’s the kind of disappointment you can plan for. Still, the Exynos 2600 isn’t a bad chip by any means.  

It’s a 10-core processor that clocks up to 3.8GHz, an upgrade over the Exynos 2500 found in the Flip 7, and it pairs with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM regardless of which storage tier you pick.

I actually tested this chip earlier this year on the baseline Galaxy S26, the Indian version specifically, and came away impressed with its peak performance. My one complaint was thermal management; the S26 heated up pretty fast under heavy use. Looking back, though, this chipset should comfortably handle anything you’d realistically do on a clamshell foldable.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 will almost certainly launch running One UI 9 on Android 17, and that opens up two separate conversations. First is what Android 17 itself brings to Samsung’s foldables, some of which tie back to features Google previewed at The Android Show and Google I/O 2026, though not everything discussed there is guaranteed to make the cut.

Second is what Samsung adds on top with One UI 9 specifically. Rumors point to updates for the Samsung Internet Browser, multi-window browsing support, new Galaxy AI features, and general visual polish across the interface. And following the pattern set by recent flagships, this phone will likely come with seven years of major OS and security updates.

Camera hardware on the Flip 8 might carry over from the Flip 7 without much change. Expect a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP selfie camera up front. So far, no leaks point to sensor upgrades, new aperture options, or any Flip 8-specific processing improvements.

That said, the Exynos 2600’s new ISP could still improve photo processing behind the scenes, even without new hardware. But let’s be honest, actual hardware upgrades tend to matter more.

If you want Samsung’s best camera setup this generation, that title reportedly goes to the Fold 8 Ultra, which is rumored to pack a 200MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto lens, and a new 50MP ultrawide sensor.

Battery life might be the most frustrating part of the whole spec sheet. At 4,300 mAh, the Flip 8’s battery could match the Flip 7 exactly, no change at all. That’s a tough pill to swallow in a year where Motorola is shipping 5,000 mAh batteries in its premium flip phones. Samsung seems to be making a deliberate choice here, prioritizing the thin form factor over battery capacity.

The one real improvement comes in charging speed. Wired charging jumps from 25W on the Flip 7 to 45W on the Flip 8. At that speed, a 4,300 mAh battery could hit full charge in roughly an hour. Wireless charging is also expected to be on board, though whether Samsung adds magnetic wireless charging is still up in the air.

If you’re coming from an older Samsung foldable, maybe a Flip 4 or Flip 5, and you’re set on staying with Samsung, or you’ve always used a regular phone but felt drawn to the flip form factor, waiting for the Flip 8 makes sense. But if the camera setup or battery life doesn’t convince you, and you’re open to switching brands, the Motorola Razr Ultra is already available.

It packs a larger 5,000 mAh battery, the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, and a camera system that holds its own. Just know it costs $1,499, a price that might make you pause before deciding.
