Most people picture a gaming PC as a huge tower packed with fans and RGB lights. ASUS just proved you don’t need all that space to get real gaming power. Their new ROG GR70 crams high-end AMD and Nvidia hardware into a case smaller than three liters, small enough to sit next to your monitor without taking over your desk.
ASUS first announced the GR70 a couple of months ago and showed it off again at CES 2026. Now it’s officially available in the US. It arrives alongside the ROG NUC 16, which uses a top-tier Intel processor instead. Both machines pack serious performance into tiny cases, and both come with prices that match their ambition.
ASUS ROG GR70 With Serious Gaming Power
ASUS offers the GR70 in two setups right now. The top model pairs AMD’s Ryzen 9 9955HX3D with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, plus 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a 2TB SSD. That build runs about $3,196.33.

The second option costs a bit less at $3,135.19. You get the same RTX 5070, same 32GB of memory, and same 2TB drive. The only change is the processor: a standard Ryzen 9 9955HX instead of the X3D version.
ASUS also lists a Ryzen 9 8940HX and RTX 5060 combo for the GR70, but that version isn’t part of the initial US lineup. The Ryzen 9 9955HX3D itself is worth a closer look: it’s a 16-core, 32-thread Zen 5 chip with AMD’s second-generation 3D V-Cache built in, which typically helps a lot with gaming performance.
The RTX 5070 Laptop GPU brings Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture to the table, so you get DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation support. Still, when you’re spending over $3,000, a laptop-grade GPU feels like a letdown. At this price, you’d expect a desktop-class card, not one built for laptops.
Even with RAM prices climbing because of the ongoing shortage, ASUS gives you room to grow. The GR70 has two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots, so you can push memory up to 96GB whenever you’re ready. Storage works the same way: the chassis fits two M.2 SSDs, giving you space to add more drives down the line.
Its size comes at a Great cost
Port selection is where the GR70 really stands out. You get six USB-A ports, one USB-C on the front, USB4, two HDMI 2.1 outputs, two DisplayPort 2.1 connections, 2.5Gb Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. That’s enough to run five 4K monitors at once, according to ASUS.

Keeping all that hardware cool inside such a small case falls to a triple-fan QuietFlow cooling system built specifically for this chassis.
Here’s the problem, though. That price is hard to justify once you look past the specs sheet. You’re not paying for a desktop RTX 5070 here; you’re paying for the compact design and clean build. That premium adds up fast.
The ROG GR70 might be one of the strongest gaming PCs you can fit in a small space, but $3,000 goes a long way if you’re willing to buy a regular-sized desktop instead.
