Apple Smart Home Rumor: ADT May Install HomeView Devices

Apple’s smart home plans seem to involve more companies than anyone expected. LG is reportedly building a set of accessories that Apple helped design, including locks, cameras, a thermostat, and a video doorbell. Now ADT may get involved once that hardware starts showing up in homes.

Apple ADT partnership

MacRumors reports signs that Apple could announce a partnership with ADT when it launches its new smart home products. Nothing is confirmed. The rumored deal would still make sense if Apple wants its new ecosystem to be easy to install, since ADT already sends technicians to set up security equipment in people’s homes.

Apple Smart Home: Apple and Hardware Partners

Bloomberg reports that Apple’s HomeView will come in two versions, one for a tabletop and one for a wall. Apple has also worked with LG on several accessories meant to run alongside it. That list includes a deadbolt, a thermostat, a doorbell, and security cameras.

Setting some of these up takes a lot more effort than plugging in a HomePod or an Apple TV. A wired doorbell or thermostat often ties into your home’s existing electrical connections. Mounting HomeView on a wall could also make you want a professional to handle it.

That is where ADT could help. The company already sends technicians into customers’ homes, so Apple would get an installation network without building one from scratch.

Apple Smart Home Clues

MacRumors noticed something odd about ADT’s newest technicians. Some of them are getting iPhone 17 Pro models for work, while the company’s other technicians normally carry Android phones.

Employees in these new roles have also reportedly signed NDAs. Some were told the job involves connected-home equipment and installation inside customers’ homes.

ADT hired these workers as Low Voltage Technicians in several US cities. More details about their duties are reportedly coming later this month. Apple, for its part, plans to show off its new smart home hardware on October 13.

None of this proves ADT will install Apple products. It is also unclear whether a partnership would cover ADT’s security monitoring services. Right now, you have a few hints that point that way, and nothing more.
