AV receivers have started to feel unnecessary for most living rooms, since modern TVs, home theater setups, and soundbars can already manage simple audio needs without adding another box to the shelf.
Marantz seems intent on changing that assumption with its new CINEMA Series 2 lineup. Made up of four different models, this range packs in enough hardware and software improvements to grab the attention of both casual enthusiasts and serious audio professionals, spec sheet and price tag included.
Marantz CINEMA Series 2 Features
Every model in the lineup shares a new 32-bit, eight-channel DAC that processes audio across all channels at once, sharpening imaging, tightening dynamics, and reducing timing errors. Gamers get something too, with 1440p pass-through and AMD FreeSync support built in alongside HDMI 2.1.

An upcoming firmware update will bring Low-Latency Bluetooth LE Audio and an updated HEOS platform to the entire range. Dirac Live Room Correction, previously exclusive to the flagship CINEMA 50, is now available as an add-on for the CINEMA 60, CINEMA 60 DAB, and CINEMA 70s.
It tightens up bass response and removes the usual dependency on sitting in the exact center seat for the best sound.
Sitting at the top of the range is the CINEMA 50 Series 2, priced at $3,000. It delivers nine channels of amplification, with processing support for 11.4 channels total, along with exclusive extras like a Dolby Atmos Channel Expander and a new Center Bi-Amp mode built to make dialogue clearer.
This is also the only model in the lineup that supports the full Dirac suite, including Bass Control and Active Room Treatment.
Marantz CINEMA Series 2 Price and Availability
Sitting in the middle of the lineup, the CINEMA 60 Series 2 costs $2,000 and serves as the main full-sized receiver for buyers in the Americas and APAC regions. It carries over the upgraded DAC, Dirac Live readiness, and HDMI improvements from the flagship, just at a more approachable price.
It also includes full-channel preamp outputs, so you can add external power amplifiers if you want to expand later. For the European market, Marantz built the CINEMA 60 DAB Series 2, which costs €1,450, and shares the same full-size chassis, DAC, and feature set as the standard CINEMA 60, but adds built-in DAB digital radio support on top.

At the bottom of the range sits the CINEMA 70s Series 2, which costs $1,500, known mainly for its slim design built for tighter spaces where a full-size receiver won’t fit. Despite the smaller footprint, it still includes full-channel preamp outputs and the same core features as the rest of the line: the 32-bit DAC, Dirac Live support, and 1440p FreeSync gaming pass-through.
All four models come in redesigned packaging that cuts down on plastic. Marantz is also rolling out a new Web Control 2.0 interface, letting you set up the entire system from your phone or laptop.
Every model except the CINEMA 70s ships August 12, with the slim model following on September 15. All four will be available in black across North America.
