Samsung just launched two new speakers called the Music Studio 5 and Music Studio 7. Yes, they skipped Music Studio 6 for reasons nobody seems to know. These speakers are Samsung’s latest shot at competing with Sonos, which currently dominates the premium speaker market.
The specs look good on paper, and the design catches your eye right away. Samsung brought back designer Erwan Bouroullec, the same person who created The Serif TV. He clearly loves working with circular shapes, and that design language shows up throughout both speakers.
Both models have a clean, minimalist look that should fit into most homes without standing out too much. They appear to deliver quality sound that matches their premium appearance from early listening sessions

The big question mark is? Samsung hasn’t revealed pricing yet, and that’s a problem because price will determine whether these speakers will succeed or fail.
Samsung has proven they can build speakers that sound great. But here’s the thing: they’ve tried breaking into the high-end speaker market before, and they didn’t get the traction they wanted.
If they price these too high, people will just stick with Sonos. If they price them too low, buyers might question the quality.

Do you remember the Music Frame? I do, but only because I had to test it for a review. After its initial launch got some attention, the Music Frame has pretty much faded away. Kind of funny for a product designed to blend into your decor.
If you missed it then, here is the brief detail about the Music Frame, it is exactly what it sounds like: a picture frame that doubles as a speaker. You can actually put your own photos or artwork inside it, just like a regular frame. Then it plays music when you stream to it wirelessly.
Audio companies have been trying different shapes and designs lately, moving away from the traditional black box speaker look.
Samsung’s idea was smart on paper. You get a functional picture frame for your wall that also pumps out sound. If you’re someone who hates seeing tech devices scattered around your home, this seemed like the perfect solution.

The concept made sense. Hide your speaker in plain sight while displaying family photos or art prints. But after the buzz died down, people just stopped talking about it. The Music Frame never really caught on the way Samsung probably hoped it would.
Word on the street is that it didn’t sell very well, and honestly, that’s not surprising. Samsung priced it at $680, which was pretty steep for what you got.
I thought the sound quality was decent when I tested it, but here’s the problem: you could buy a Bluesound Pulse M or a Sonos Era 300 for less at the time, and both sounded better.

You’d think Samsung would learn from that mistake and price their next speakers more carefully. But this isn’t their first rodeo with overpriced wireless speakers. They released the VL Series a while back, which also looked great and had a premium price tag. That didn’t catch on either.
Samsung keeps making the same mistake. They build attractive speakers with good design, then slap a high price on them that puts them in direct competition with brands that have already proven themselves in the premium audio space.
When buyers compare specs and sound quality at similar price points, Samsung keeps losing that battle.

Samsung has tried the premium pricing strategy with wireless speakers before. It hasn’t worked.
Here’s what’s interesting: Samsung owns JBL through its Harman Audio purchase. JBL makes speakers across all price ranges, from budget models to expensive ones.
The key difference is that JBL focuses on delivering the best possible sound at every price point. They don’t subscribe to the idea that great sound only comes with a premium price tag.
That’s the approach Samsung should copy with the Music Studio series. The problem with their past speakers wasn’t quality. If you read customer reviews of the Music Frame, people actually liked it. The sound was good, the design worked, and it did what it promised.

The issue was simple: the price kept people from buying it. Too expensive for what you get compared to the competition. That stopped the Music Frame from building any real momentum in the market.
Samsung needs to nail the pricing on these Music Studio speakers. If they don’t, we’ll watch the same story play out again. Another well-made Samsung speaker that looks good, sounds decent, but costs too much.
Another product that gets positive reviews from the few people who buy it, then quietly disappears from stores. Getting the price wrong again means repeating the same cycle. Same mistakes, same results, same disappointment.
