Samsung just announced the price and US release date for its most ambitious phone yet. The Galaxy Z TriFold is already becoming one of the most discussed devices of early 2026.

After launching in select regions first, Samsung confirmed the TriFold will reach the United States on January 30, 2026.

The phone costs $2,899 for the model with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. That puts it among the most expensive phones on the market. Samsung is clearly targeting premium buyers rather than trying to appeal to everyone.

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold US Release Date

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold

Samsung’s first tri-fold phone comes with some good hardware. The outer display measures 6.5 inches with an AMOLED panel, Full HD+ resolution, and a 120Hz refresh rate. You can use it like a normal phone when the device is folded.

When you unfold it completely, the inner screen expands to 10 inches with 2160 x 1584 resolution and the same 120Hz refresh rate. This gives you enough space to run three portrait apps side by side comfortably.

The screen uses a special hinge system with a shock-absorbing display layer. Samsung designed this to reduce stress at the two-fold points and make the phone feel more durable.

But independent testing found early signs of hinge wear at around 144,000 folds. That’s well below Samsung’s claimed 200,000-fold durability rating. For a phone that costs nearly $3,000, questions about how long it will last are valid concerns.

The camera system matches flagship quality. You get a 200MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 10MP camera with 3x zoom. Two 10MP selfie cameras sit on each display, and both can record 4K video.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip powers the phone. The 5,600mAh battery supports 45W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

Samsung added a PC-style productivity mode that turns the unfolded display into a portable workstation. This targets people who need a phone for actual work, not just showing off.

The Galaxy Z TriFold also includes IP48 water and dust resistance, stereo speakers, and ships with One UI 8. Samsung promises seven years of OS updates and security patches.

The phone is bold, expensive, and interesting. Whether people use it daily or just keep it as a collector’s item depends on how well the hinge holds up over time.
