The company just expanded its Search Party for Dogs feature. Now, anyone with a lost pet can request help through the Neighbors app. You don’t need to own a Ring camera to use it.
Search Party for Dogs launched a few months ago as an AI tool. Initially, only Ring camera owners could use it to report missing dogs and help spot them in their neighborhoods by checking their camera footage.
The expansion changes how the feature works. Previously, you needed Ring hardware to ask for help finding your dog. That requirement excluded many pet owners who might benefit from community assistance, but that barrier is gone now.
This matters because finding a lost dog often depends on how quickly you can alert people in your area. The more eyes looking, the better your chances of getting your pet back safely. All you have to do is open the feature to everyone, which means lost dogs get reported, and more people can help look for them.
Ring cameras still play a role in the search. Camera owners can review their footage when they get alerts about missing dogs nearby. But now any pet owner can trigger that search, regardless of what security equipment they own.

Ring is expanding that reach, letting all pet owners tap into the same network of neighbors and outdoor cameras when a dog goes missing.
How Does the Ring Search Party for Dogs Work?
Pet owners can report a lost dog through the Neighbors app by uploading photos and adding details about their pet. This information will be sent to Ring users living in the area, whose outdoor cameras can help search for matches.
The system uses AI to compare reported missing dogs with animals that appear on Ring outdoor cameras. Indoor cameras are not configured for this feature. When a Ring camera spots a dog that might match a missing pet report, the camera owner gets an alert. This alert includes an image of the dog and relevant video clips.

Camera owners then decide how to respond. They can share the footage with the pet owner, contact them directly, or skip the alert entirely. Ring designed the system to be optional for camera owners.
Ring frames this as turning lost dog searches into a community effort instead of leaving owners to manage alone. By opening Search Party for Dogs to everyone through the Neighbors app, the company hopes that combining community awareness, AI technology, and neighbor cooperation will reunite more dogs with their families quickly.
The approach depends on numbers of people participating. If camera owners ignore the alerts or few people in an area have Ring cameras, the system won’t help much. But in neighborhoods with active Ring users, it could make a real difference.
Ring also recently added a security seal to prevent tampering with camera footage. This addition supports the company’s push for more trust and transparency in how it handles video data.
