When Amazon showed off its new Kindle Scribe lineup last year, the marketing photos included a really nice plum-colored version of the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft.
People were pretty excited about it. But then December 10 rolled around, the official launch date, and that color option was nowhere to be found. Up until now, Amazon has only been selling the e-reader in one color, which is gray. The good news is that that is about to change.
Amazon just confirmed that the “Fig” version of the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will finally be available on January 28. The Fig is exactly the same as the gray (Graphite) model. The only differences are cosmetic; you’re getting a new back panel finish in that deep plum shade, along with a bezel and stylus pen that match the color.

Just like the Graphite version, this one comes with an 11-inch Colorsoft display that has an adjustable front light, and you can choose between 32GB or 64GB of storage depending on how much space you need. The price stays the same, too. The 64GB model is already listed on Amazon for $679.99.

Kindle Scribe Colorsoft Features
Right now, the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is Amazon’s top-of-the-line Kindle. It’s faster than previous models and comes with software improvements that make a difference in day-to-day use.
For starters, the home screen has been redesigned and now supports Quick Notes, so you can jot things down without digging through menus.
You can also sync with Google Docs and Microsoft OneDrive, which is super handy if you use those services regularly.
There’s even an AI-powered notebook feature that lets you search through your notes and get summaries of what you’ve written; its pretty useful if you take a lot of notes and need to find something quickly.
If you like to mark up books or sketch, you’ll appreciate that it offers multiple pen and highlighter colors, not just basic black. There’s also a new shader tool designed with artists in mind, so you can add depth and shading to your drawings. And on top of all that, it supports Alexa+, so you can use hands-free voice control if that’s something you use.
One of the features that sets it apart is the Colorsoft display itself. Amazon used something called texture-molded glass, which gives the screen more grip and friction, so when you’re writing or sketching, it feels more like you’re using a pen and paper than sliding around on a slick glass surface.

They’ve also upgraded the front-light system with smaller, miniaturized LEDs that spread light more evenly across the screen, so you don’t get those annoying bright spots or shadows.
Plus, the display has been redesigned to reduce parallax; that’s the weird gap you sometimes see between where your pen tip is and where the line actually appears on screen. It makes writing feel much more accurate and responsive.
There’s a new quad-core processor and more memory than before, which translates to real-world speed improvements. Writing feels smoother, and flipping through pages is up to 40% faster compared to the older model.
If you’re in the market for an e-reader that can also work as a good digital notebook, the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is definitely worth considering.
You can pick up the Graphite version right now for $629.99, or if you want something with a bit more personality, wait until later this month to grab the Fig variant when it officially drops.
