Samsung Pro Keyboard for Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra: What We know

Samsung has brought its Pro Keyboard for the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra to the US and Europe, after the accessory debuted in Korea earlier this month.

The idea behind it is simple. Samsung built this keyboard to close the gap between the Tab S11 Ultra and a proper laptop. You get a large trackpad and a stiff hinge that holds the tablet at a stable angle, which makes it feel less like a tablet propped up on a flimsy cover and more like something you can actually work on.

It is priced at $399.99 in the US and €389.90 in Europe. That is a significant amount to spend on a keyboard case, no matter how well it is built.

You are already paying flagship money for the tablet itself, and Samsung is asking you to spend nearly $400 more just to use it comfortably at a desk. For $100 more, you could just buy the base MacBook Neo with a student discount.

Samsung is clearly trying to earn that price with what it puts into the build. The keyboard uses an aluminum casing, which already sets it apart from the plastic-heavy keyboard cases most tablet makers ship.

The hinge is rigid enough that you can tap the touchscreen without the stand collapsing or shaking, which is a real problem with cheaper alternatives.

It also connects through the magnetic pins on the back of the Tab S11 Ultra, so there is no Bluetooth pairing to deal with and no separate battery to keep charged. You attach it, and it works, which is honestly how all keyboard cases should function, but rarely do at this price point.

When you fold the tablet and keyboard together, the whole setup closes like a laptop. That is the clearest sign yet that Samsung is serious about positioning the Tab S11 Ultra as a laptop replacement, not just a tablet with an optional accessory.

Pair it with Samsung DeX, and the case for spending $400 starts to make more sense. DeX turns the Tab S11 Ultra into a desktop-style experience with a proper windowed interface, and having a physical keyboard and trackpad makes that mode far more usable day to day.

The keyboard also includes a dedicated AI key and three function keys you can program to open whatever apps you use most. Small additions, but they show Samsung thought about this as a productivity tool rather than just a cover with keys attached.

Samsung Pro Keyboard for Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra Weight

Weight is the other issue worth knowing before you buy. The keyboard alone comes in at 1.4 lbs (0.64 kg). Add the tablet, and the combined setup weighs 2.93 lbs (1.33 kg), which puts it in the same range as most 14-inch laptops.

That weight creates an odd situation. You are carrying laptop weight, paying close to laptop money, but you are still holding a tablet.

You get some of the laptop experience through DeX and the physical keyboard, but you also take on the downsides, like the bulk, without getting a full laptop in return. For some people, that trade-off works. For others, it raises a fair question about whether a thin and light laptop would just be the better call.
