Apple’s Studio Display needs an update, as the current version, launched in 2022, has a 27-inch 5K IPS panel running at 60Hz. It uses the A13 Bionic chip. Leaks point to a major upgrade coming soon. Apple might add a new chip with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR support.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports the new Studio Display could arrive within months. He says Apple has worked on this update “for some time” and plans to launch it “in the first half of 2026.” March seems likely based on the original model’s timeline.

Apple Studio Display refresh at 120Hz

Apple released the first Studio Display in March 2022. A regulatory filing appeared about three months before launch.

An unreleased Apple monitor showed up in a regulatory filing last month. This suggests Apple might follow the same release pattern as the original model.

The rumored upgrades include Apple’s A19 chip replacing the aging A13. The display could get ProMotion technology with a 120Hz refresh rate instead of the current 60Hz.

HDR support might also make the list. These changes would mark the first substantial update since the Studio Display launched three years ago.

New MacBooks may not be far behind

Gurman also mentions Apple’s upcoming Mac updates. A new MacBook Air with the M5 chip should arrive soon. M5 Pro and M5 Max versions of the MacBook Pro already sit in shipping warehouses around the world. Apple has them ready to ship.

Apple is also working on a new Pro Display XDR. The current model looks outdated compared to newer displays.

Reports suggest the updated version will include a built-in webcam and a 7K resolution panel. It might add Thunderbolt 4 or 5 ports, Apple silicon inside, and better display technology. But Apple hasn’t announced a release date for this model yet.
